- Cycle ride
A wonderful bike ride to discover the cultural heritage of Tournai, the "city with 5 spires" and its countryside. There will be a few surprises along the way...
Impossible, when in the town centre, not to admire the Notre-Dame cathedral. Built between the 12th and 13th century, it is a real architectural gem, listed in the UNESCO world heritage. Its mix of Romanesque and gothic structures and its 5 Romanesque towers, 83-m high, make it an iconic religious monument.
From the town centre, the trail goes up towards the countryside and a wind farm sure to make your head turn. You will then cycle along the biggest greenhouses in Belgium. The ones in the Lesdain are filled with thousands of fruit and decorative trees. As the kilometres go by, admire the soothing landscapes: the sweet little church of Bruyelle, the timeless dance of the narrow boats on the Escaut...
On the way back, take the RAVel 1 to the Chercq lime kilns. Tournai will soon be in view, the bell towers announcing the city on the horizon, then it thousand years old Pont des Trous. The itinerary finished on the Grand-Place which terrace will prove ideal to indulge in one of the local beers.
Good to know
Another trail in the region, the «Échappée verte à vélo à Silly» (The green cycling trail in Silly, 24.1 km) will take you to a local brewery.
