Or Bleu / Diamant Noir: an exhibition on mining and water at Bois-du-Luc

Or Bleu / Diamant Noir presents an unexpected side of mining: the complex link between water and coal...

The 4 main mining sites in Wallonia listed by UNESCO (Grand-Hornu, Bois-du-Luc, Bois du Cazier et Blegny-Mine) have come up with a fascinating series of exhibitions linked to the 4 elements: water, air, fire and earth.

This fascinating project retraces the story of the 4 locations: a different way to explore them altogether.

Water, quite a symbol for Bois-du-Luc

Bois-du-Luc  was created to mine coal but also solve the local water issue. From pipes dug in tree trunks to the Newcomen pump, known as the fire machine... engineers had to prove particularly creative. Water was as vital as it was lethal in that environment.

A trail explores this complicated relationship though 4 themes: water in the mine, water as a means of transport, water on the surface, water after the mining process.

From 24 June to 31 October 2019.
