The Bastogne War Museum is fully devoted to World War 2 in Belgium. In December, this cultural centre will commemorate the 74th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, which took place in the region and saw the city besieged by German troops.
The Nuts weekend
A famous word in Bastogne. Three days after the Germans began their advance on Bastogne, US General Anthony McAuliffe established an emergency HQ at the Bastogne Barracks.
The Germans, encircling the town, sent a message demanding surrender. McAuliffe’s response was short but clear: “Nuts!”. The commemorations decided to pay hommage to this great military man...
A program rich in history
The many events planned will of course focus on the 1940-1945 period:
- Friday: conference and screening of the documentary "Searching for Augusta"
- Saturday: military equipment (reproductions) fair, static reenactment around the museum, historical book fair
- Sunday: meet WW2 veterans and those having witnessed the war first hand.
