  • Folklore and Tradition

Join the Jean-Jean du Ballon ducasse in Ellezelles, where history, folklore and traditions come together.

Following the forced landing of a hot air balloon in their small village of Guinaumont, around 1850, the inhabitants decided to commemorate this rather special episode in the history of the Pays des Collines with an annual ducasse.

Folklore and festivities

A festival of beer, ham and “maton tart”, this ducasse brings also features:

  • fanfares
  • harmonies
  • floats
  • giant puppets (including the famous Jean-Jean, representing the mayor of the time)
  • craft market
  • concerts and musical entertainment

After the final dance, you will see the traditional ascent of Jean-Jean du Ballon, hoisted in a wicker manna above a straw fire.
