The Masques, Beauté des Esprits exhibition features over 80 rare masks found in Asia, America, Africa and Oceania.
The creative shapes, diversity in materials used and size is mesmerising. Some are used to hide behind during initiations, rituals, dances, dramatic or cheerful plays. Other represent justice, offer a way to reach the afterlife or express a sense of power
The selection, part of the Musée du Quai Branly museum (Paris), first travelled to Pekin then Tokyo before stopping in Liège.
