Celles, one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia

  • The most beautiful villages of Wallonia

Town of Houyet (Province of Namur) Condroz
Nestling in a valley surrounded by four hills, Celles has ancient origins and reached the height of its fame in 669AD, when the revered monk Hadelin settled here. He is immortalised by St Hadelin Church - a true masterpiece of Romanesque architecture – and the St Hadelin hermitage on a hill overlooking the church.

Two kilometers from the village is the Feudal Castle of Vêves. Many of the traditional houseshave framed openings in the stonework which have been extremely well preserved.

Guided tours can be arranged.

The association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie"

Created in 1994 and inspired by the French equivalent, the association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie" awards its label to the most beautiful countryside sites of Wallonia.

Listed buildings and outstanding patrimony (in a preserved environment) go hand in hand with the inhabitants' will to share their quality of life.
