Town of Assesse (Province of Namur)Condroz

This charming little village, perched on two hillsides above a narrow wooded valley, has retained numerous dwellings and small farmhouses made of sandstone or whitewashed limestone from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Lapped by the river Crupet, from which it takes its name, the village has made ample use of its fast-flowing waterway, as witnessed by its five mills, a stationery factory, saltworks, oil mill, forge and – being Belgian – a brewery.

Guided tours can be arranged.

Created in 1994 and inspired by the French equivalent, the association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie" awards its label to the most beautiful countryside sites of Wallonia.

Listed buildings and outstanding patrimony (in a preserved environment) go hand in hand with the inhabitants' will to share their quality of life.
