Set up in one of the 12 fortresses built to protect the city of Liège, the Musée du Fort de Boncelles presents the military story of Wallonia from 1830 to today and features rare objects from the first and second world war.

The Boncelles fort is located just a few kilometres from the centre of Liège. Designed by General Henri Brialmont, built in 1870, it was at the very heart of the fighting in August 1914 and May 1940. The museum itself is just on the building's glacis.

An exceptional military cultural heritage on the two world wars

The museum trail will give you the chance to see rare, if not unique objects coming from private collections: flags, Belgian and German uniforms, weapons, ammunitions, military maps, photographs...

One area is dedicated to military model making: soldiers, tanks, battles have been carefully recreated.

There also is a collection of military vehicles to admire just outside the museum.

The perfect conclusion to your visit

Stop by the cafeteria, in fact the former officers' mess and tank garage, it quite an original place to have a coffee and a treat!

You might very well meet the museum's curator along your visit. Do say hi: he is passionate about that page of history...
