Mélin, one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia

  • The most beautiful villages of Wallonia

Located in the province of Walloon Brabant, the village of Melin is distinguished by its white ‘Gobertange’ stone.

Lying at the head of the Gobertange valley with commanding views, Mélin is huddled around its church. The white stone houses are ornately decorated and often swathed in flowers.

Unusually, these dwellings have gables perpendicular to the road, and are arranged in L or U formation. The village also contains four large farms and smaller brick-built dwellings dating from the 19th century. These blend with the white stone to give the village a perfectly homogenous feel.

The association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie"

Created in 1994 and inspired by the French equivalent, the association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie" awards its label to the most beautiful countryside sites of Wallonia.

Listed buildings and outstanding patrimony (in a preserved environment) go hand in hand with the inhabitants' will to share their quality of life.
