This pillory, listed a historical monument in 1936, is quite unique in Europe: made in a gothic style in Belgian blue stone, almost 500 years old, impressive in size, it's also the only one to be topped with a lantern.
A criminal punishment
The pillory was used by the High Court of Justice to publicly expose those condemned of a crime in the old regime. Maximilien de Hornes, the local lord, ordered it to be built in 1521 on the main square of the village as a symbol of power. It will soon be renovated.
