Urban discovery of Liège | Circuits vélo en Wallonie

  • Cycle ride

The RAVel 1 itinerary, which goes through the "Fiery City", is the best way to cycle in Liège and discover its rich cultural heritage and its history.

Liège, which was the capital of an independent principality for 8 centuries and the heart of industry in the 19th and 20th centuries, has retained its superb architecture heritage, completed in the last decades by new buildings, blending in beautifully.

The Meuse, crossing it through and through, adds to its charm. Cycle along it for a while.

From Coronmeuse, on the RAVel, you will cross the Atlas bridge to get to the Godefroid Kurth docks, then the Sainte-Barbe ones. From there you can see, on the opposite bank, the Grand Curtius. Further on, a footbridge will take you back to the town centre, cycling through the rue de la Régence.

A new footbridge will soon link the Parc de la Boverie to the Guillemins district and its magnificent TGV railway station, designed by architect Calatrava.

After cycling along the Boverie, the new Fine Arts museum of the city, you will go above the Dérivation, a canal dug in the 19th century to replace the branch of the Meuse in the Outremeuse district. From the Fétinne bridge, starts the Ourthe RAVel, which goes toward Tilff and Esneux, should you be tempted for more. If not, simply go back to the Fiery City and settle down in a café or restaurant to enjoy the local friendliness.
