Nestled in a stunning Art Deco building, the Musée Vieille Montagne focuses on the political, industrial and social history of the Moresnet-Neutre region, known for mining calamine (a mix of zinc carbonate and ferric oxide).
Political and social background
The region's sub-soil, rich in zinc, was heavily mined in the 19th century, bringing the small village of La Calamine fully in the industrial era.
The museum retracing this incredible adventure (over a hundred years of history!) in what used to be the headquarters office of the mining site,
The former railway station of the village also features an exhibition of how life used to be like, with a focus on the railway side of things.
