Tanks in Town celebrates the liberation of Mons in 1944 with a procession of WWII tanks and military vehicles. They will be following in the tracks of the American armoured convoy that drove through the city. The war would continue another 8 months but hope was in sight.

What can you see?

Shermans, Chaffees, Pershings, Tank Destroyers, Half Tracks, armoured cars, jeeps, lorries... will peacefully drive through the historic centre then gather on the Grand Place where the public will get a chance to get a closer look at them.

Program

  • Friday, August 26th: owners of the vehicles are welcomed
  • Saturday, August 27th: exhibition, christening of tanks at the Bois Brûlé, Militaria fair, music
  • Sunday, August 28th: the tanks will start moving around 8 am from Bois Brûlé. Arrival around 5 pm on the main square of Mons with a stop in front of the Mons Memorial Museum at 3:30 pm
