The Parc des Canaux et Châteaux represents 10 communes of the Province of Hainaut, including La Louvière, Soignies, Braine-le-Comte, Soignies and Écaussinnes.
This region offers sharp contrasts – both rural and historical industrial areas. The latter explains the presence of canals and impressive architectural features such as the Ronquières inclined plane, the hydraulic boat lifts of the Canal du centre (listed by UNESCO) and the ], the Strépy-Thieu funicular lift – real treasures of Wallonia’s waterways.
A land of many castles
Perfect for all history lovers! The Château de Seneffe’s estate is home to a museum dedicated to goldsmithing and silverware, which hosts themed events and temporary exhibitions. The Château d'Ecaussinnes-Lalaing is another must see: its collections feature exceptional Tournai china pieces.
Each commune has its own museums and folkloric manifestations. There is much to see and learn! The Musée du chapitre, Centre for Engravings and Prints in La Louvière are real cultural highlights in the region.
