15th of August commemorations | The national necropolis of the fort of Loncin
Join the historical commemorations at the fort of Loncin, built in Liege's fortified belt. the celebrations stretch over 5 days.
On August 15th, 1914, a 420 mm bombshell went through the ceiling of the right powder keg, which contained 12,000 kg of explosive powder. Not only did this destroyed the fort, it killed 350 persons in the process.
Paying a tribute to these 350 heroes
There is a wide range of events to join with, of course, on the 15th, a commemorative ceremony with processions, and the traditional mass in the trenches.
These 350 soldiers stayed buried in the ruins of the fort, a rather dramatic grave.
