- Architectural heritage
Antoing Castle was the stronghold of the powerful family of Melun and then passed to the current line of Princes. Today we can still see a large part of the 12th century enclosure and the bolewerk (fortified bastion) built in the 15th century. In the 19th century, the famous architect Viollet-le-Duc transformed the castle into a magnificent Neo-Gothic house.
During the guided tour, you'll discover:
- the enclosing walls and the bolewerk
- in the lapidary museum, the remarkable recesses and prayers of Antoing, Melun and Ligne
- the dungeon with the knights room and the lord's room
Find out all of the important moments that have marked the life of the castle: the Hundred Years' War, the Burgundy period, the troubles of the Inquisition ... The site has notably welcomed Philip the Good, Charles the Bold, Maximilian Austria and the student Charles de Gaulle, during the school year 1907-1908.
A Mecca of history you musn't miss.
