Charleroi Photography Museum will dedicate an exhibition to American artist Joel-Peter Witkin. Named Le Grand Atelier (The large Workshop), it will prove intriguing and thought provoking.
Who is Joel-Peter Witkin?
Born in Brooklyn inn 1939, this photographer and visual artist became famous for his constructed photographs depicting macabre, erotic and religious scenes. His work always prove quite original, recreating well known myths, finding inspiration in Art History, from Antiquity to contemporary times.
What to see at the exhibition?
A hundred photographs and a few drawings by the artists will be on show. All are meant to create an emotion in the viewer - whether fascinating or repulsion. Often compared to a monstrous parade, they appeal to a sense of voyeurism.
