  • The most beautiful villages of Wallonia

Nestled in a green setting along the Semois river, Laforêt kept its traditional atmosphere and rich cultural heritage. This charming village still had its drinking troughs, washhouses and even tobacco dryers.

A picturesque village in the Ardenne

Now a little gem wrapped in woodlands, Laforêt once was once a thriving tobacco-growing area. Most of the houses occupy two parallel streets on either side of the church. Built of locally quarried schist, the small farmhouses have distinctive façades of wood, stone and brick. Look out for the sweet details in their architecture: hearts (for luck and protection) on facades and barns, bull's eye windows, wooden frames... At the heart and edge of the village, tobacco dryers can still be seen. A 2 km discovery trail will show you the most iconic places in the area.

Water, part of the village's story

Laforêt still counts quite a few drinking troughs, as well as a set of washhouses - memories how daily life used to be in the past... Women used to take care of the laundry in the sheltered areas. The cattle would rest nearby, by the recipients made of local blue stone. Families would collect water from the little fountain.

The Pont de Claies: a seasonal bridge

This  is built every year in summer accross the Semois river. Meant in the pasts for farmers and cattle, it proves much stronger than it looks! Do ask the local office for the exact dates to see it.
