The Maison du Pays de Salm presents the history, geology and folklore of Vielsalm. Visitors will learn of the famous Counts of Salm, the mysterious Macralles, the fascinating galleries of schist and The Coticule museum or the fascinating history of whetstones. Coticule might sound like a strange name indeed for a stone: they were used as sharpening stones.

Practical information

After watching a documentary, visitors will discover galleries dedicated to the mines and geology of the Pays de Salm. They feature, amongst other gems, an animated scale model, tools, photos, historical documents presenting the local quarry/mine workers and artisans' skills. Follows the enigmatic world of legends and Macralles in the region.

In summer, the mascot of the Maison du Pays de Salm joins in to welcome families.

A family trail
