This museum, dedicated to André-Modeste Grétry (1741-1813), a master of comic opera, is located in his native home. Paintings, miniatures sculptures, engravings, personal objects... give a fantastic insight into this musician's Liège. These are distributed in the different rooms of the house which have each kept their original vocation. Everywhere, an iconography presents Gretry at all ages and in all aspects.
In the museum, you will also discover several historic musical instruments, partitions and an iconography presenting Gretry throughout time. On the second floor is a library, richly filled with music documentation as well as the artist's correspondence, who had exchanged letters with some of the greatest minds of the 18th century.
Belgian barytone José Van Dam sponsors the museum, while composer Patrick Dheur manages it.
