Tournai, a major historical destination

Tournai is one of Belgium's oldest cities, and a major historical destination.

The legendary Clovis was born here in 466AD, and it became the cradle of the Merovingian dynasty and the capital of the Salian Franks.

Tournai's heritage: thousands of years of history

Tournai boasts the oldest belfry in Belgium and the unique five towered Notre-Dame cathedralboth UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Musée des beaux-arts de Tournai was designed by Victor Horta, the Belgian Art Nouveau master. Art lovers will delight in the many masterpieces by Manet, Monet, Seurat and Van Gogh.

Paved alleys, intimate squares, the river Escault and the Pont des Trous add to Tournai’s charms. Don't miss the statuettes interspersed here and there: they always have a great story behind them. And should you itch for a tasty treat or thirst-quenching beer, there are plenty of outdoor cafes where you can stop for a break.
