Walk or cycle to the flint mine area of Spiennes: dating back to the Neolithic period, the site has been listed by UNESCO.

Just 6 km outside the centre of Mons, these 100 hectares feature thousands of flint mine shafts. It witnessed the first Neolithic sedentary societies, which makes it an exceptional area for scientific research. The first 25 were found in 1867 and excavations uncovered more and more, including the oldest mines with cutting workshops going back 6,400 years.
An interpretation centre in Petit-Spiennes, Silex'S, presents the many facets of this unique archaeological site.
