At the confluence of the two Dendre rivers, take a stroll through the convivial town of Ath. Also called the city of giants, it is known for its exceptional folklore: its ducasse is Listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. 500 old, the event is held very dear by the locals.
You could not wish for a more magnificent start for this trail, which combines culture and countryside roads. The RAVel starts near the Maison des Géants. It will take you along the Blaton-Ath canal, offering both water views and green landscapes.
Cycling along the canal, you will reach Beloeil and it stunning castle. The RAVel stops there: follow countryside roads all the way to Aubechies, considered one of the prettiest paths in Wallonia, and its Archéosite®.
The picturesque village, suspended in time, has retained the architecture typical of the region in the 19th century. Do have a look at its Romanesque church too. The journey back to Ath will be thorough countryside roads. Stop by the Marquise mill in Moulbaix: this mill, one of the oldest around is still in activity.
