- Mountain bike ride
The Hautes Fagnes gives birth to many brooks and streams, which sculpt valleys and canyons as they cascade down. The Sart-lez-Spa trail will introduce you to these beautiful landscapes.
The itinerary starts from the square in Sart-lez-Spa, quite pretty with its porch. The village being built on a ridge, you will first cycle down to the Hogne valley. Cross the fording in Royompré, towards the bottom of the slope - the view from there is gorgeous.
The trail goes up the stream. The path, rugged and steep at times, might remind you of the Alps. Continue all the way to Solwaster, built on a promontory where this village was built.
The houses are made of limestone and sandstone blocks, sometimes featuring half-timbered walls. Going through the streets, you will notice their walks are think, heir roof low, their windows narrow: a reflection of how hard the climate can be on the higher part of the plateau.
From the Maison Fagne, the trail goes to the Malchamps airfield via the Hartai forest: a very pleasant ride leading you below Stockay where you will cross the Wayai, a brook going through Spa. A last fording and you will be back in Sart-lez-Spa.
